VIA Zhaoxin x86 Processors SOC
Taiwanese company VIA Zhaoxin, launches their x86 SoC processors. The company VIA, has launched new processors in their KX-5000 and KH-20000 series. Though the release date of KX-7000 series is not announced yet. Looks like they’re up against popular Intel and AMD CPUs with VIA Zhaoxin x86 processors.
KX-5000
KX stands for KaiXian, KX-5000 series is built for both, Mobile (laptop) and Desktops. These 28nm KaiXian chips are based on WuDaoKou microarchitecture and has Quad cores up to 2.0 GHz with 8 cores versions as well.
The focus of KX series is Desktops, Laptops and Workstations. They are comparable to Intel core i3 and i5 processors. Following chart shows what we know about this series, so far.
Model | Cores/Threads | Frequency | L2 Cache |
---|---|---|---|
KX-5640 | 4/4 | 2.0 GHz | 4 MiB |
KX-5540 | 4/4 | 1.8 GHz | 4 MiB |
KX-U5680 | 8/8 | 2.0 GHz | 8 MiB |
KX-U5580 | 8/8 | 1.8 GHz | 8 MiB |
KX-U5580M | 8/8 | ≤ 1.8 GHz | 8 MiB |
KX-U5580M the fastest among these has 8 cores and 8 threads running @2.0GHz, based on 187 mm2 64-bit chip. With L1 cache of 64kb and L2, 8MB, these processors also include capability of Intel VT-x, Trusted Execution Technology, SSE4.2, AVX, and AVX2. The chipsets also support PCI-e x16 and x4. The memory support is dual channel DDR4-2133 up-to 64 GB and lastly, The integrated DX11.1 GPU provides a maximum of 4096 x 2304 pixels at 60 Hz. Though the only port available is HDMI.
KH-20000
KH stands for KaisHeng, KH-20000 are built for server level processing and mainly focused for embedded networking, storage, and servers. Following chart showing specification of current known KH-20000 processors.
Model | Cores/Threads | Frequency | L2 Cache |
---|---|---|---|
KH-26800 | 8/8 | 2.0 GHz | 8 MiB |
KH-25800 | 8/8 | 1.8 GHz | 8 MiB |
