The Lord of The Rings: Gollum Leaked Screenshots Show A Precious Game

The Lord of The Rings: Gollum was announced a couple of years ago but there have been no updates since the announcement. Only the game targeting a 2021 release date. It seems that GameStar, a German gaming website has had some exclusive images of The Lord of The Rings: Gollum. This is our first look at the game and it seems that things are far from being … Precious.

It is said that Gollum is supposed to be a 2021 title, specifically for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The screenshots look okay at best, but when we look at games like Godfall as an early look at the next-gen, these screenshots look a bit … dated.

By current generation standards, the game looks fine, but for it to make a splash in the next-gen, it definitely needs a few more bells and whistles.

The game is being developed by Daedlic Entertainment. The studio is relatively niche and has developed other games series like Deponia and The Dark Eyes series.

While details on the game are scarce, Gollum is set to let you control the titular character from the Lord of The Rings Lore, and it is said the game mainly draws inspiration from the Gollum described in the original books of J.R.R Tolkien. So if you were looking for movie references, you will be at a loss.

While we don’t have any further details to share regarding Gollum, we can only hope to see the game in some shape or form in future presentations. The game was originally announced in an issue of EDGE magazine.

A quote from the magazine gives us a brief idea on the setting of the game:

Gollum will see, uh, Gollum start in Barad-dûr, a fortress in Mordor where the corrupted creature is being held prisoner, but you can expect to see plenty more of Middle-Earth beyond that, as the game promises “giant, persistent environments, each harbouring several questlines and a range of friendly or unfriendly faces.”
