The Hunger Games series so far has the first movie, “The Hunger Games” and the sequel “Catching Fire” both of which were a Hollywood hit. Many final movies of a trilogy have been great such as the “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Toy Story Three” and “The Godfather 3”. But the last of the series by Suzanne Collins might not be what the first two were. Here are some reasons why.
THE MOVIE DOESN’T PICK UP EARLY
If you have read The Hunger Games trilogy you know that the story in “Mockingjay” doesn’t pick up quick like Catching Fire or The Hunger Games but picks up almost halfway through the story. This brings up a problem the problem of boredom. What people in the 21st century like is fast pace. That’s why you have highspeed internet, 4G data, and fast cars in the world. This is not the 19th century where slow and steady wins the race, but in this era if you snooze you lose. This is where Mockingjay takes a punch as the slow start to the story may bore the audience. If this is the case the movie would head towards a bust. But maybe the movie masters at Hollywood will change that in the movie.
PHYLYSOPHICAL: NOT INTERESTED
There is a reason why the story doesn’t pick up fast in the third book of the series and that’s because it has to deal with all the politics in Panem and all the psychological issues surrounding the characters. Now some people will appreciate this deep analysis and view of society and the characters but some people won’t because they appreciate the thrilling action and suspense that the first two movies brought of the games. The third movie has this but it’s near the end. Unfortunately this might create an uninteresting first half of the movie to the audience as the movie is geared towards teenage viewers and teenagers love nothing more than just explosions, romance and car crashes. This might be a contributor to the lack of success of the movie.
BUT THERE IS HOPE
Yes there is, the final episode of The Hunger Games may actually be a great hit and join the list of the greatest endings to a trilogy. One reason why this may occur is because the audience sees Katniss Everdeen finally choose her lover. The second contributor to the success of the movie would most likely be the twist that occurs in the story with Peeta Mellark. The final reason as to why the movie might be a success is because it has a satisfying ending which will go well with the audience. Mockingjay has high expectations to live up to but only time will tell if the movie will catch fire or be a fallen victor.
