The Deadpool Movie: What we know so far

Deadpool uprising

Despite that we saw Deadpool in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it did not exactly please fans of the unhinged Marvel Comics character. In fact, the portrayal of the character was considered as pure blasphemy. Indeed, fans cherished the casting of Ryan Reynolds. But there is a lot of stuff they did not like about it as well. They took away everything about Deadpool, what makes him Deadpool, like no cancer, no costume, and a sewn up mouth.

The good news is that the Deadpool is getting its own movie. 20th Century Fox has officially announced that the movie will be released on February 12, 2016.

And we might have answers for all those questions that are lingering in your mind right now. Here is what we know about the Deadpool movie so far.

The Director

There is a strong chance that Tim Miller would be making his directional debut with the Deadpool spin-off. Best known for his work as a VFX artist and the creator of the effects company Blur Studio. However Miller doesn’t have many feature credits to his name.

The Actor

When the rumors of the movie started to pop-up, the biggest question was who will play the character. Ryan Reynolds is much favorable choice for the portrayal of Deadpool, as he has already been casted as Deadpool and is a superfan of the fictional Marvel Comics character.

The Script

The screenwriting duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are the auspicious choice for the script of the Deadpool movie. Why? Because they have been working on the script since 2010, when the movie was first rumored. The script even leaked online and fans had a lot on their hand to get all the details they wanted about the movie. The script even tells that the story goes back and forth in time to tell about the characters past and present life.

The Rating

Given that Deadpool is a foul mouthed, amoral and a psychotic mercenary, he could find a very nice spot in an “R-rating” movie. After all, if you are swinging two katanas and firing semi-automatic machine guns, and there is no blood, something is indeed very wrong. Although there is news that the filmmakers did find a way to make it PG-13. Those comments have been disputed both by screenwriter Rhett Reese and Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld – both of whom have said that the vision for the rating hasn’t been 100% determined yet.

Other X-Men Characters

Given that the character’s rights still belong to belong to 20th Century Fox, Deadpool can easily be slipped into the existing cinematic world of X-Men movies. But a question still remains of how much crossover we can expect.

It is also expected that we see new mutant characters of the X-Men universe. Rob Liefeld told us in an interview, “Every new X-film has always featured new mutants in it. I believe Deadpool will reflect that same practice.”

Connection to X-Men Origins: Wolverine

There is also a chance that the Deadpool movie will also connect to the X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But then again the fans got really pissed off when they saw the portrayal of the characters.

Let’s wait and see as what the Deadpool movie promises.
