Start Menu can be replaced by Start screen in Threshold

A new report on Windows came up few days ago. Where the unknown source claims that the next major Windows update will be replacing Windows 8.1 Start Screen. That means you will now be able to see the famous start menu again.

Well we know that you must have heard old stories on Windows 9 and that it is bring start menu back. But these rumors don’t seem to attract users as they don’t see any changes and news. But this new story really makes you happy and concern. Microsoft watcher Paul Thurrott via his own unnamed source in the company confirms the news. The new indicated start menu which was briefly shown by Microsoft at the build 2014 developer’s conference in April won’t just be an option in the Threshold (Windows new Version code name) but it will be a full replacement on the current Windows.

So how will this new Start Menu works? According to Paul Thurrott source the new Start menu isn’t really based on the old menu that’s so familiar to Windows desktop and notebook users. Instead, when a PC with Threshold (which may or may not be called Windows 9 when it launches) boosts up, it will detect if the PC is a traditional laptop or notebook and then provide a Start menu that has the same kind of size as the old fashioned UI.

However, if Threshold is used on a device that just has a touch screen with no keyboard, like a tablet or a surface the Start menu will then boot to a full screen experience that will look much like the current Windows 8.1 Start screen. Users will apparently be able to switch from the full screen to the smaller Start menu with Threshold, according to Thurrott.

As usual with these kinds of unconfirmed reports these new story gains popularity in market. It’s also possible that Microsoft could change its plans. Currently the rumors that we are hearing is Microsoft will be launching a public preview of Threshold this fall. A month has passed and still 2 months to go for summer to pass and no sign shown by Microsoft to launch the public preview. Besides we also come to know that the full release of Threshold will be in spring 2015.

So how do you like the new Threshold Start Menu design that sets according to hardware?
