Over the years, Sony has continued to come up with unique names for its smartphones. This year we expected them to launch Sony Xperia XZ Pro. However, the phones that were actually launched at the MWC 2018 were the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact.

Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact Specs
Key Specs of Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact:

- 5.7 inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels.
- 19 MP rear camera with f/2,0, predictive phase detection, autofocus, etc.
- 5 MP front camera with f/2.2.
- Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
- 64 GB built-in memory, with 4GB RAM and Micro SD card slot.
- 3G/4G compatible.
- 3,180 mAh battery capacity
- Octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor
Sony’s new flagships have a very sleek look, because of the “Ambient Flow” design language. The Xperia XZ2 has a proud 3D curved Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and back of the smartphone. The XZ2 Compact is comparatively less glossy due to the hard polycarbonate finish on the back. The fingerprint sensor for both the smartphones are located on the back and will respond fast. Furthermore, both the smartphones are IP68 waterproof.
Even though Sony has significantly reduced the size of the bezels on the screens but it’s not enough to compete with Samsung, LG, etc. Sony has also gotten rid of the headphone jack, following Apple’s footsteps. Now, the smartphones rely on USB-C for earphones. The Xperia XZ2 has the Qi wireless charging due to its glass back. Additionally, it also has the Dynamic Vibration System.(Haptic feedback in time with video and audio content.) However, the Compact version lacks the wireless charging feature.
Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact Price
Sony has stated that both these smartphones are going to be available globally by March.
The Xperia XZ2 will be available in four color variants- Liquid Black, Liquid Silver, Petrol Blue, and Ash Pink. However, the XZ2 Compact comes in Black, White Silver, Moss Green and Coral Pink.
Considering the price of XZ1 ($699) and the XZ1 Compact ($599), we expect similar (maybe higher) pricing for the new smartphones.
