Remember the action adventure game Shenmue from the late 1990s? Well turns out that Sega, the original developer behind the games, is planning to do a special collectors edition release for the PS4. Shenmue HD Collectors Edition will contain both, Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 along with 2 discs worth of bonus music tracks.
The Shenmue games were some of the most popular back in the day, the first game was released on Sega Dreamcast back in 1999. It was one of the very first games to feature a day and night dynamic time. It also had an open world map and a well-developed hand to hand combat system for its time.
The Shenmue HD Collectors edition popped up on Amazon Japan and those of you who live in Japan can get the collectors edition from here.
It is unfortunate, however, that the Shenmue HD Collectors Edition will not be available outside Japan, apparently, it has to do something with music copyrights as some people have pointed out.
Coming back to the early history of the game, Shenmue titles were big hits in the Asian markets, especially in Japan. These games seemed well ahead of its time considering the variable weather, non-player characters, vending machines and arcade games.
As for the Story, it revolves around Ryo Hazuki, our main character who has undertaken a mission to search for his father’s killers.
Sega had announced the release of the Shenmue 1 and 2 earlier this year as HD remaster games for PS4, however, people were unsure of the exact date, many speculated that it will arrive in mid-August but Sega has finally spoken out and we have a definitive date. The game will release on 21st Aug.
