Tencent is a Chinese multinational investment holding conglomerate founded in 1998 known for its Internet-related services and products, entertainment, artificial intelligence, and technology. Rumors about the removal of PUBG from China is making its rounds on Chinese social media. However, Tencent denies all of the claims about the removal of PUBG from its gaming platform in the next couple of months. Read more for details.

Removal of Monster Hunter World from Tencent’s WeGame

A few weeks ago the steam rival client of Tencent’s WeGame removed Monster Hunter: World. The game which was expected to be the flagship titles on Tencent’s WeGame. All sales of the game were halted on Monday morning. A statement issued offering refunds after WeGame said the game did “not fully comply with relevant regulatory and policy requirements”.

There was no mention of whether they’ll attempt a relaunch of Monster Hunter: World. The game which has sold more than 8 million copies on the PS4 and Xbox One across the globe.

Steam also announced their collaboration with Shanghai firm Perfect World. This is for the official launch of Steam in China. Showing a mixed reaction of people on the news. Some welcomed the move to make Steam legitimate in China and some said it would bring censorship.

Tencent Denial of Claims on PUBG Removal

A message revolved around the Chinese social media making the rumor of PUBG removal swirl around like a storm. The website also claimed that Tencent had failed to clear the games properly and had already started quietly developing PUBG-style titles to redirect users to when the originals were removed.

The website on which the rumor was posted said that Tencent secretly started developing an escape game to make up for the Mobile game.

After getting the gist of the news, Tencent officially replied that this is just a mere rumor. Tencent seemed to be struggling with new titles on their platform and has lost a fifth of its market value this year.
