People have been long asking for their PSN profile name change and it might soon be available for PSN users. Due to backend network updates and rumors about a big infrastructure/platform update.
PSN Profile Name Change and Bad Thing About It
You can find numerous rumors about a possible new PlayStation console in development and new features like PSN name change. Back at PSX 2017, PlayStation’s boss, Shawn Layden hinted that the ability to change PSN names could be coming soon. But it has been long since that announced. New rumors about a big PSN infrastructure update before a new possible PlayStation console. This could mean Sony is hinting the PSN name change feature for PSN users.
Heard a few rumors Sony might be working on a big infrastructure/platform update for PSN in time for PS5. They're not resting on their laurels when it comes to cloud it seems.

A Reddit user also confirmed this via contacting Sony support. He said he asked them to change his username because it had his real name in it which they might change as an exception. They did not change his username but they said that PSN profile username will soon be available for PSN and you could change the names as many times as you like and for free. So, What’s the Bad New?
Don’t just rejoice yet, because I got a bad news for you. The bad news is that you might be able to change your PSN profile name but you could lose all of your data. If you have a PSN profile from PlayStation 3 days then most likely you will be losing your data, says the leaker. You can, however, lose all of your progress on the PlayStation 3 only and you will be keeping your PlayStation 4 data.

With all this, no official statement from Sony have been revealed regarding a new PlayStation 5 or PSN profile name change so take the rumor with a grain of salt. But a lot of rumors have been emerging regarding new hardware in development which is not surprising honestly. It also seems like all of the background update(major ones) might be related to the hardware development but again we have to wait for official Sony Announcement for confirmation.
