RUMOR: PS5 Could Use Cartridge Games Instead of Blu-Ray

It seems that Sony may have taken a little too much inspiration from the Nitnedo Switch when it comes to designing the next console. An earlier patent revealed a Switch-like console for either the next PlayStation Handheld or is this the PS5?

Is this the first look at the console we see a lot of resemblance to the Nintendo Switch. The original patent first surfaced in 2017, which is also the time that the Switch was revealed.

It seems that now Sony is on the path of patenting a new type of cartridge system similar to that of the Nintendo Switch.

According to Techtastic, who first came across the patent, it seems that now Sony is looking to patent a new kind of cartridge that could go with the above system. Whether this is intended for the next-generation home consoles or the handheld line is still the million dollar question on everybody’s mind.

Keep in mind that Sony in the past has had plenty of patents that never actually saw the eyes of consumers or daylight, so perhaps these are just some ideas that they are throwing around at their corporate headquarters, with the tremendous success of the Nintendo Switch in mind.

Perhaps Sony could also be following suit with Xbox and making 2 variants of the console. One will be like the PS4 that is a fixed home console and the other could be a portable version of the PS5?

For now all we can do is speculate and wait and see. Considering Sony has bowed out of participating at E3 2019, we will have to wait for the other trade shows for the PS5 to make its appearance and presence to the public.
