PS4 Firmware 4.55 Jailbreak Released, 5.00 Firmware Jailbreak on the Horizon

PS4 Firmware 4.55 Jailbreak Released

The PS4 Firmware is currently limited to 4.05 and prior, but SpecterDev has made a milestone for the scene with their PS4 Firmware 4.55 Jailbreak which is more or less a final product missing some stuff like Homebrew and Debug menu.

In the readme file that comes attached with the firmware states the following:

In this project you will find a full implementation of the “bpf” kernel exploit for the PlayStation 4 on 4.55. It will allow you to run arbitrary code as kernel, to allow jailbreaking and kernel-level modifications to the system. This release however, does not contain any code related to defeating anti-piracy mechanisms or running homebrew. This exploit does include a loader that listens for payloads on port 9020 and will execute them upon receival.

This bug was discovered by qwertyoruiopz, and can be found hosted on his website here.

There is also a video demonstrating the Jailbreak in action when they show off Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered running with plenty of mods and hacks.

This release is not at all similar to the webkit exploit released some time ago which has been patched as of Firmware 5.03, meaning any hopes of achieving Jailbreak on a console on series 5 Firmware are now out of reach, for the time being.

PS4 Firmware 4.55 Jailbreak Running on PS4

Considering the leap from 4.05 to 4.55 and only time will tell whether the scene will reach the point of achieving a breach in Firmware 5 and beyond.

While we will keep you updated on the scene as it develops, there is still much progress to be made before systems are capable of playing with other gamers online and we can count on Sony cracking down on those pirates with quick haste as they did with the PS3 players before the release of the PS4.

What are your thoughts on the scene and do you want the Jailbreak to reach firmware 5 and beyond? Let us know in the comments section below!
