PlayStation Refund Guide: How to get a refund for USA PS Store purchase

PS Store Refunds

PlayStation Store

Sony has finally begun its PlayStation Refund policy in North and South America. The policy was already in effect in other regions such as the EU. Here is how it works.

Earlier today, I came across a Reddit post that stated the arrival of PlayStation Refund Policy to the USA. Apparently, PSN Store refund is not a global phenomenon as is limited to a select number of regions. However, it seems like the policy is finally in effect in SA and NA.

The refund policy only applies if you bought something off of PS Store but changed your mind about the purchase in which case you are eligible for a refund given that no more than 14 days have passed since the purchase and game hasn’t been downloaded.

However, different rules apply to different sorts of purchases. Consult the guide below for a full understanding of how to apply for a refund.

Following is a complete list of scenarios that might apply to a PS Store purchase as per the official website.

Full games, downloadable content, themes, avatars, and season passes fall under this category.

After purchasing this type of content through PlayStation™Store, you have 14 days from purchase to request a refund to your wallet on PlayStation™Network. If you started to download or stream the purchased content you are not eligible for a refund unless the content is faulty.

PlayStation® Refunds for Pre-ordered Digital Content

A pre-order refers to any purchase of digital content made from PlayStation™Store before the content release date. There are two types of pre-order refund requests, depending on the date the content was pre-ordered:

A) Pre-order purchases more than 14 days before the release date

You may request a refund to your wallet on PlayStation™Network at any time up until the release date of the content.

B) Pre-order purchases less than 14 days before the release date

You may request a refund to your wallet on PlayStation™Network up to 14 days after the date of purchase.

You may have additional refund rights under applicable local law for pre-order purchases if the release date changes; nothing in the summary above limits any such rights under local law.

PlayStation® Refunds for Subscriptions

Subscriptions purchased from the PlayStation™Store, with reoccurring fees, include PlayStation™Plus, PlayStation™Now or Spotify® Premium on PlayStation™Music. After purchasing a subscription to PlayStation™Plus, PlayStation™Now or Spotify® Premium service you have 14 days to request a refund to your wallet on PlayStation™Network. Free trial periods are in the 14-day refund window.

For subscription services, your refund amount based on how much you have used the service. For example, if you buy a PlayStation™Plus 12-Month Membership and request a refund seven days after the purchase date, the refund amount may be reduced to reflect any use of the subscription, such as playing online, downloading monthly games, using cloud storage, etc. If you purchase a subscription service from PlayStation Store, you are purchasing an ongoing subscription with recurring fees that will continue until you cancel it. While you can cancel a subscription service at any time, the service continues to the end of that billing period. Cancellation or turning off your auto-renewal, will stop future payments of the subscription fees but, beyond the initial 14-day cancellation period, you will not receive a refund for payments already made.

If you would like to request a refund for a PlayStation™Plus, PlayStation™Now or Spotify® Premium on PlayStation™Music subscription, please contact PlayStation® support.
