What was the thing you liked best about Nokia phones? Specifically about the Windows phones that Nokia has been working on. You may like the Windows OS itself, or the material or the finishing. But camera quality has always been reassuring. As you may remember, Microsoft has acquired the Lumia phones of the company, it can very well participate in its making and manufacturing.
The software giant Microsoft and imaging giant Canon have struck a cross-licensing patent deal that affects “a broad range of products and services each company offers, including certain digital imaging and mobile consumer products”.
There is no official word as which devices by Microsoft will be powered by Canon. Or it can be the other way around. Canon could manufacture a smart camera featuring Windows as its platform. This could be done by using Canon’s patent and the software knowledge for improving the PureView technology it bought from Nokia.
What can we expect? The camera on the Lumia 920 is spectacular. With the technology used by Nokia in the 920, it made its customer satisfied with the imaging quality. And let’s not forget about the monster phone-camera, the Lumia 1020. The phone is outstanding with its imaging and video quality. Pure class in the smartphones.
But on the other side, this deal could just be a reassurance that neither company will have patent disputes with the other. Which is very important, as companies like Samsung and Apple have had disputes from years now and they are not ready to settle. But then again it could mean that the two will be made to play nicer to each other. Which as mentioned earlier, could lead to cameras with Windows as its operating system.
Well, we are just hoping to find out soon what Microsoft and Canon needed the deal for. Stay in tuned for the latest updates.
