Kik Messenger app updated for iOS 7, brings redesign, loses in-app features

Kik Messenger is one of the fast growing messengers having users up to 100 million. Yesterday, Kik Messenger app for iOS received an update, befitting it with iOS 7 and taking its version to 6.7 while WhatsApp still misses iOS 7 makeover update.

The update brings redesign to the Kik Messenger app, making the graphics flat, adding some borders. There is also an addition of one sticker pack i.e. My Little Pony. Previously there were five sticker packs i.e. Happy Tree Friends, Smiley World, the free Memes, South Park and Adventure Time. Along with these features, the app also receives stability improvements.

Let’s have a look on the description of the update Kik Messenger app:

Along with these updates, there is a bad news. iOS 7 has modified the way the apps communicate. This has affected the Kik Messenger app too disabling the users to use AnyVideo, Fontself, the in-app features of Kik Messenger app. The company describes the problem, in detail, in the blog post:

“With the release of iOS7, Apple introduced some big changes to the way apps communicate. One of the changes Apple made has limited the ability for mobile apps to share data with each other.

Why does this matter to you? Some of your favourite third-party apps relied on the ability to send data to our app, so that you could send videos, cool fonts, and more to your friends on Kik. Unfortunately, that means if you’re using iOS7, you won’t be able to continue using Apps That Kik, like AnyVideo and Fontself, to send stuff to your friends on our app.”

However, the company is working on its solution. Moreover, trying to bring these features i.e. AnyVideo, Fontself etc. on its Cards platform. The platform is created for mini-apps that enable you to play games, watch videos and a variety of stuff.
