Previously, Apple announced the 64-bit processor for its iPhone 5S. iPhone 5S comes with iOS 7 which supports 64-bit processing. Later on, Samsung also announced the introduction of 64-bit processing for its new flagship device. The report says that Samsung Galaxy S5 will operate on 64-bit processor. The story does not end here as at Intel Developers Forum IDF, Intel announces 64-bit support for Android.
At IDF, the Chief Guest was none other than Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice President of Android, Google. Along with the announcement of 64-bit support for Android, Intel also unveiled its 64-bit Bay Trail chip which will be available during the first quarter of next year i.e. 2014. Moreover, it is also confirmed that Intel continues adding code to Android Open Source Project regarding 64-bit processing.
Considering all these things, it can be expected that Android 4.4 KitKat will be a 64-bit OS as Intel announces 64-bit support. However it is yet not confirmed as 64-bit processors can still run 32-bit OS. So if not Android 4.4 KitKat, we can hope for a 64-bit Android version soon as the trend continues to move towards 64-bit processing.
