Google Play Games brings multiplayer gaming between iOS and Android

Google Play Games is just like Apple iOS Game Centre hosting leader boards, achievements, and facilitating real-time multiplayer. Google announced last year in I/O developer conference that it will be releasing its Google Play Games services to iOS as well. Google announced that it will be providing the SDK for its Game Services to both iOS and web developers, in addition to Android developers.

Today Google announced officially on official Android Developers blog in Game Developers Conference that the Google Play Games now supports iOS as well. Both Android and iOS supports turn-based and real-time multiplayer capabilities. Now players can send each other virtual in-game items as Google Play Games and its API have now been enhanced with the ability to implement support for game gifts.

Moreover Google Analytics will now be available directly in the AdMob interface and said In-App Purchase Ads “will let game developers target players with specific promotions to buy items in their games.” Google is also introducing 18 new game categories so that it will make “easier for players to find games they’ll love”.

Here are the official words from Google

“To further help with cross platform game development, we’re updating our Play Games Unity Plug-in to support cross-platform multiplayer services, and introducing an early Play Games C++ SDK to support achievements and leaderboards.”

Google Play Games supports both real time multiplayer and turn based multiplayer games. It is really a very good step from Google as it will help more gamers to connect with other gamers worldwide no matter if they are using Android or iOS. Now we have to see if Apple port its Game Centre to Android or not.
