Facebook will allow you to Delete data collected by Third Party Apps and Sites

Facebook

Facebook went through a really difficult time in the past few weeks over privacy concerns. We’re all familiar with the public event that happened in the US. Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook was summoned by senators and congressmen to answer questions about potential privacy breaches of the public.

The response from users and general public has also not been short of aggravation. Everyone, especially users openly voiced their concerns about privacy and leaking of data. It looks like Facebook is trying to earn its users’ trust back by offering them more control over their data. It will be a measure that will prevent collection of data by any third party.

You will be able to Delete data collected by Third Party Apps and Sites on Facebook

Introduction of a “Clear History” feature was announced in early moments of annual F8 Conference. The feature will be available to the users very soon. Here are their exact words:

In recent weeks it has become clear that people want more information about Facebook, and about the control they can exercise on their data. […] We want to start with a function that solves a criticism that we have often received from Facebook users, privacy experts and authorities: everyone should have more information and control over the data that Facebook receives from other sites and apps that use our service.

However, there’s a catch. The data will still remain in the Facebook database. The way this Clear History feature works is as follows. When a third party app or site collects your information, the identification from it will be removed. Meaning, all the data and information will be there, but that information will not be attached to a user. Instead, they will user generic data like gender or age group to create reports and analytic data to figure out trends and popular things, but no specific user will be identified with the collected data.
