The world of console emulation just took a huge leap in what is the first ever Nintendo Switch emulator on Android. MonoNX Switch Emulator for Android is the newly released Nintendo Switch emulator capable of running Switch homebrew and possibly games on Android devices.
Over the last year, Nintendo Switch emulation has made some real progress on PC with YUZU, the sole Nintendo Switch emulator on PC that can actually run games completely. Since its inception, Yuzu has undergone substantial improvement where now you can run games like Super Mario Odyssey fully without any hiccups.
However, that is the PC side of things, what no one expected was the arrival of a Nintendo Switch emulator on Android of all places. MonoNX Switch emulator for Android is just that.
MonoNX Switch Emulator for Android
MonoNX is created by a GBATemp user “ctrninja”. MonoNX is based on a different Switch Emulator for PC called Ryujinx. Ryujinx is of course not as popular as YUZU nor as capable but it still a Switch emulator for PC. However, the emulator hasn’t seen much progress in the way of development lately.
The idea behind MonoNX is the same as its PC counterpart- to be able to run Switch games at a decent frame rate and other homebrew software. However, don’t expect any miracles any time soon. Android hardware is currently nowhere near as powerful as a decent gaming PC, which is what is needed to play Switch games on YUZU or Ryujinx.
Moreover, not all Android devices are supported either. You will need a device that features either an ARM64 or a 64-bit x86 processor. Even then you will only be able to run some early homebrew such as the first libtransistor tests.
That being said, MonoNX is a nascent project and needs a plethora of development before it can even boot a modern Nintendo Switch game. Like all ambitious projects, ample patience is required.
You can, however, download and install the emulator on your Android device if you meet the requirements and see how it performs.
Download MonoNX Switch Emulator for Android
MonoNX is available on Play store and can be downloaded from here. Good news is you can download a test ROM to see if the emulator works properly on your device from here. Scroll all the way down of the thread for the download link.
Let me know in the comments what you think regarding MonoNX, do you think the project is too ambitious or will we see it run Switch games in the future?
