A couple of days ago we presented to you a list of the Hollywood summer movie season which included movies and studios that had a great business and some of which failed to keep their self-respect entirely. Now it’s time we come to the more people-flying-with-a-punch side of the film industry. That’s right you guessed it right, Bollywood.
Here are some record-breaking and major disappointing movies from the Bollywood summer movie season.
The Breakdown
LOSER: “Dil Dhadakne Do”
Directed by Zoya Akhtar, and starring Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar etc. the moviea although had good direction and execution with sentiment and emotions well attached to the movie, turned out to be an upset.
The movie was not able to make it to foreign theatres and made only $3 million from making it 238 domestic theatres.
WINNER: “Brothers”
Based on Gavin O’Connor’s Warrior which was released in 2011 and ranks in the Top 250 list of IMDB, Brothers – coming from Fox Star Studios – not only did well in domestic theatres but also got a chance to go worldwide.
Brothers managed to pull off a good $17 million worldwide till this date, adding a good name to the Bollywood summer movie season.
LOSER: “ABCD 2”
Directed by D’Souza, ABCD (Any Body Can Dance) 2 was a major disappointed to Bollywood watchers.
The movie did not manage to cross the $1 million milestone and stands on $892,133 earnings from its domestic release.
WINNER: “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”
Salman Khan’s performance in Bajrani Bhaijan was exceptional, not only did he perform well but for once he trued not be the invincible policeman/bodyguard/thief.
Bajrangi Bhaijan did not go foreign but was able to score $7.9 million in domestic theatres.
CONFUSED? “Hamari Adhuri Kahani”
Hamari Adhuri Kahani revolves around lovers who never get chance with each other, faith has it one of them doesn’t make it in the end.
The movie itself was executed well, with good fulfilled dialogues, decent cinematics and respectable (though some would disagree) actors. With a total business of $4.4 million, Hamari Adhuri Kahani stands on the edge of winning and losing.
